1) Introduction
This site has three types of content:
- Page - website pages for news, announcements, photo gallerys, or the "Information for Members" sidebar. It's the page from the original site, but with the ability to add links to the sidebar
- People - is how you add people to the Executive and Stewards page.
- Webform - there is one webform on this site, namely the Contact Us page. You can edit the contact information on the top of that form, but not create a webform.

2) How to add a page
Go to Manage - Content - Add content - Page

Here's an overview of what you should see next.
2.a. New features of the content editor
Here are some of the changes since Drupal 7.
2.b. The "Where should this page appear?" option.
By default, pages go in the news area of the front page. If "sidebar" is selected, it will go in the sidebar but not the news section. If neither is selected -- like this staff help page -- it will appear in neither.
To make a page stay at the top of the news section, use the "Sticky at top of lists" option.
2.c. Edit Summary
Items that appear in the news area will have a brief summary on the front page. By default, Drupal will automatically create a summary from the sentences in first 600 characters. If a picture in the page is within the first 200 characters, it will also be part of the summary.
There are two ways you can change the default summary.
1. You can add a summary in Body (Edit summary) field.
If you add a summary using the summary field, the field strips all the special formatting, html, and images from the summary.
2. You can use the Insert Teaser Break button to show Drupal where the summary should end. This maintains any links, formatting, or images in the summary.
2.d. Editing menu
Just like Drupal 7 or Microsoft Word, you can format your content (body) by using the editing menu.
The image below highlights some useful functions in the editing menu.
2.e. Remove format
Most editors have formatting buttons such as bold, italics, and underline. The Remove format button
resets those formats. Everything on the menu to the left of the Remove format button is reset by this button.
This button can be useful when you cut and paste text from a Word document or another website into this site. When you paste from Word or another site, you might also be pasting in the original page's formatting. This button can remove a lot of that formatting
2.f. Create Link
You can automatically link to a page or website, by pasting the URL. However, if the link is long like https://nupge.ca/content/large-corporations-fighting-keep-canadians-pay…, it may be best to create some descriptive text and link that.
The Link button lets you turn any text into a link. It also searchs CUBGW.ca for pages and uploaded files. Here's how to use it:
- (Optional) Type the wording you want for your link and highlight that text with your cursor.
- Click the Link button

- Start typing the page title or the name of the file you want. A list of matching files and pages will appear.
- Click on the page or file you want and press pop-up's the Save button.
2.g. Upload File
You can upload and create a link to a file by using the File button. It's the one that looks like a paper clip
This button will open up a dialog page that lets you select a file from your computer and save it to the website. Here's how to use it.
- (Optional) Type the text you want for your link and highlight it with your cursor.
- Click the File button
. - An "Add file" window will appear. Click Browse.
- Find the document you want on your computer. Double-click to select it.
- Click Save to upload the file.
You can also create a list of documents at the end of your page by using the Document/File Attachments feature near the bottom of the page.
2.h. Add photo or a photo gallery
There are two ways to add a photos. You can add them in the page by using the Use the image button
or you can add them at the end of your page as a photo gallery using the Gallery Images feature.
2.h.i. Using the image button
- Place your cursor where you want the photo.
- Click the image button

- Use the insert image box to find your photo and upload it.
The insert image dialogue - Click the pop-up's Save button to insert your photo.
- If you choose the caption option, there will be a place below the photo to enter it.
2.h.ii. Adding a photo gallery
A photo gallery is a good way to add a lot of photos at once.
To add gallery photos
- In the Gallery Images section at the bottom of your page, click the button under Add a new file .
The Gallery Images section. - Browse your computer for the photos you wish to add to the site.
- If the images are bigger than 1000px by 1000px, the website will resize them to fit.
- The website will put a plus sign in the center of the photo. If the center should be re-positioned, click where center should be (this is explained in the video below).
- Add Alternative text to each photo. This will become the title of the photo.
- Click the Save button.
This video goes over the basics of adding photos as a gallery.
2.i. Special characters
Adds special characters such as fractions (¼, ½, ¾), symbols (©, ¢, §), or accents (Á, à, Ð).
2.j. Block Quote
Block quote makes a quote stand out.
"Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen."
by Mark Twain
2.k. Headers
Headers help organise your page and make it more readable, especially for people using screen readers.
For example all page titles on this website are Heading 1 by default.
The main headers of this page are all H2.
Sub-headings are H3
I tried using H4's for sub-sub-headings, but it looked a bit odd.
2.l. The Maximize button

This useful button expands the page editor to full screen, which can be handy if your pages are long.
Note, to save a page, click the maximize button again to exit full screen. Otherwise you cannot see the Save button.
2.m. The Horizontal line button
This should not be confused with the Insert Teaser Break button.
Horizontal lines can help define a thematic break in a webpage. They are useful, but are not used as much anymore. I've included one below this sentence.
