Education Week 2023

The Union committee's annual education week took place at Fern Resort in Orillia, ON on May 15-19, 2023.  Education week is an annual event for our entire Union committee to get together outside of the normal work environment.  This year was highlighted with guest speaker Elaine Bernard former Executive Director Harvard Trade Union Program now part of Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School. 

30th Canadian Labour Congress Constitutional Convention

Thousands of delegates from coast to coast to coast representing local and national unions including labour bodies were in attendance at the 30th Canadian Labour Constitutional Convention held in Montreal, Quebec from May 8 - 12, 2023.  The convention theme was "Canada's Unions: Lifting Everyone Up", where several important social and economic resolutions were brought forward for debate by delegates which will help outline the future of the labour movement.

Orientation 2022/2023

After a long hiatus due to Covid, we have resumed welcoming new members (and some not so new) to orientation.  We thank these members for taking the time to join us and are proud to have them join the Canadian Union of Brewery and General Workers Local 325.

WE STAND WITH EDUCATION WORKERS

Today we had the opportunity to show our support for education workers who have lost their right to strike and negotiate a fair contract.  The Progressive Conservative government enacted a law imposing a contract on 55,000 education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees and banned them from striking, pre-emptively using the notwithstanding clause to guard against constitutional challenges.

Ottawa (01 Nov. 2022) — The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is joining the growing chorus of those condemning the efforts of the Ford government in Ontario to impose a contract on workers in the education sector. 

2022 Brewery Council

After a long hiatus due to Covid, the Brewery Council was alive and well in Ottawa October 24-26, 2022. It was a welcomed and long overdue gathering of Unions from across Canada.

The Brewery Council offers Unions the opportunity to share stories of success, discuss current and ongoing issues, and the challenges to the brewing industry.

Ottawa (19 Oct. 2022) — The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is pleased to announce that the Manitoba Association of Health Care Professionals (MAHCP), representing 7,000 members, has joined us as our newest Component union.

After a two year hiatus from our annual education week due to Covid.  The Union committee resumed education week at Fern Resort in Orillia from May 30 - June 3.  Education week is an annual event for our entire Union committee to get together outside of the normal work environment. This year we welcomed several new committee members who participated in group assignments and lectures by President Gaurav Sharma. 

CUBGW Local 325 members ratify settlement to lockout

Toronto (13 April 2021) — After 39 days of being locked out by brewery giant Molson Coors, members of the Canadian Union of Brewery and General Workers (CUBGW) Local 325, have ratified a new collective agreement. The settlement addressed the outstanding issues in bargaining of shift scheduling, tiered wages and pensions.

Molson posted job ads for temporary workers almost three weeks before lockout at Toronto brewery

Almost three weeks before locking out 300 employees at its Toronto plant, Molson posted help wanted ads looking for temporary brewing, packaging and warehouse workers.

The ads, posted on a number of websites, including LinkedIn and Indeed, are a sign the company is playing hardball in its dispute with the Canadian Union of Brewery and General Workers Local 325, according to labour advocate Deena Ladd.

“They’re showing they’re playing hard ball. It’s not a good look for them,” said Ladd, executive director of the Workers Action Centre.

Orientation 2019

The Canadian Union of Brewery and General Workers welcomed 13 new members at orientation held on October 25, 2019 and November 1, 2019.  We thank these members for taking the time to join us and are proud to call these members our brothers and sisters.

Marie is a recent retiree from the Canadian Labour Council(CLC).

2019 NUPGE Convention June 21 - 23, 2019

This national Convention marks a 43 year milestone for the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). 2019 also marks the 100 year anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike.

Winnipeg (19 June 2019) — The Triennial Convention, with delegates from all components, is the supreme governing body of NUPGE. Between conventions, the National Union's governing body is the National Executive Board, which comes from the leadership of all the components (see more).

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Brother Bob Drover. Our deepest condolences to our sister Laura Drover as well as friends and family.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brother William (Bill) Moynihan who passed away June 8, 2023. May you rest in peace brother.
